WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., released the following statement today regarding White House opposition to the Louisiana Recovery Corporation bill (H.R. 4100 / S. 2172) introduced by Sen. Landrieu and Congressman Richard Baker, R-La.

Sen. Landrieu said:

"The White House opposition to the Louisiana Recovery Corporation demonstrates a continued lack of understanding for the magnitude of the devastation and the immense rebuilding task our state faces.

"Congressman Baker's bill is one of the major rebuilding initiatives that has won wide bipartisan support, both in Louisiana and in Congress. I will continue to work with Congressman Baker, our state officials and Congressional delegation to push this concept and to incorporate, where possible, White House suggestions that are effective and fair for our state."
