Lake Forest Principal, Teacher Travel To Capital To Receive Honor

NEW ORLEANS -- A New Orleans elementary school is being honored as one of the state's best.
Lake Forest Elementary Charter School was selected as a 2009 National Title I Distinguished School for "Exceptional Student Performance for 2 or More Years."
Lake Forest's Principal Mardele Early and three fourth-grade teachers traveled to Washington, D.C., to accept the award. The group was scheduled to visit with Sen. Mary Landrieu at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and attend a parade at the National Harbor in Maryland on Thursday. The awards are scheduled for Friday.

The National Title I Distinguished School Program honors schools across the country for their innovation in helping Title I populations achieve high educational standards.
Distinguished Schools are selected from each state by members of the National Association of State Title I Directors.
Lake Forest Elementary Charter Schools growth school performance score ranked first in Orleans Parish K-8 elementary schools, ninth among metro New Orleans elementary and high schools and 20th in statewide elementary and high schools.
Lake Forest is a 4-Star school with a consistent 100 percent LEAP test pass rate.
