The Importance of Volunteering
I am pleased to present the Volunteer section of my web site!
There is nothing more rewarding than to finding a way to devote your time, energy and compassion to help your neighbors and give back to your community. From reading to a child to working in a food bank to visiting the elderly, there are countless ways to touch the hearts and lives of those around you. One of the best hours of my week is spent participating in the Everybody Wins program, which partners volunteers with elementary school children to share lunch, conversation and a good book.
If you are already a volunteer, I applaud you and invite you to browse the opportunities on my site to learn about other ways to contribute. If you are not currently a volunteer, I encourage you to devote time to giving back to your community. Even if you do not have a lot of time, there are many ways to volunteer and reinforce the community spirit that will help us build a bright and strong future.
Volunteer opportunities are listed by area — New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport/Bossier City, Lafayette/New Iberia, Monroe, Alexandria and Lake Charles — as well as statewide opportunities. To view a listing of volunteer options in every parish, please visit volunteerlouisiana.gov, a statewide volunteer website managed by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu's office.
If you are a member of a volunteer organization in Louisiana that would like to post information on our site, please email my office at webmaster@landrieu.senate.gov.
